Holidays with my family
If there is an American holiday it’s probably something we celebrate in my family. Valentine’s Day, yup. Easter, sure. 4th of July, for the most part. Thanksgiving, can’t forget it. Christmas, I think we would all freak if we didn’t. Now I realize that only two of those are technically American holidays and what I guess I mean is that we celebrate in kind of American fashion. I mean Easter actually used to have a religious counterpart to it in that we would go to church on that day but the best part was finding eggs and getting candy.
Now I left two off that I think some people might have noticed: St. Patrick’s day and Halloween. I’ve never celebrated St. Patrick’s day outside of wearing lots of green to school (never really talked about it at home) and at this point I’m the only one who really celebrates Halloween anymore.
But out of those five holidays up there there are only two that we don’t exchange gifts on (4th of July and Thanksgiving). It’s always been this way but usually on V-day and Easter it’s small things (DVDs and CDs are big hits during those two plus candy). This year however my mom has gone way beyond what is usual and has already given me my Easter present. I present to you ladies and gents my new typewriter:
From what I can figure out so far it’s a Royal KMM. It still works (the keys actually work incredibly smoothly) and there’s a relatively fresh ribbon in it. My mom, brother, and neighbor went to the antique market without telling me and picked this up. Since I wasn’t there with them I don’t all that much about this particular one but I’m going to ask my mom some more questions about it tomorrow and see what I can find out.
I may post a better picture tomorrow when I have natural light to work with but for right now I’m fucking ecstatic about it.
